So this family wanted the title of the blog to be “Dysfunctional Family” because that is what we said during this session instead of cheese ;) In reality, this family was hilarious, vivacious, and constantly had me on my toes. I enjoy photographing large groups, and observing the fun cousin dynamics and the sibling relationships of a couple different generations. By the end of the session my cheeks hurt from laughing and I found myself wishing I could be a fly on the wall at their family get togethers. Even though it was a bit chilly, we had a wonderful session with a beautiful autumn backdrop.
I loved these two, I could have photographed them all day =)
Kid: Mom, what are they doing with their hands?
Mom: that is the nerd peace sign
Then we were joined by this doll, she was awesome and was able to keep all those boys in line!
We actually managed to get the whole group in a picture!
Thank you so much for having me photograph your families! Enjoy your sneak peek!
Kristie contacted me a few years ago for a family session and I look back and think about what a lucky gal I am that she did. It has been a pleasure watching her boys grow up and also a blast seeing what she puts together each year for their session. Kristie styles her family so well! This year we went to a local farm for pictures. Those who know me know that I was just sighing with joy the entire time. And there were goats and horses and a tame deer and a red barn and antiques and an old school house…seriously…dying. Anyway, back to the actual subjects of the day ;)
These guys are such characters!
Check out those beautiful colors!
Seriously, what a dreamy place!
Kristie’s sister, nephew, and niece joined us for the second half of the session.
We met Bob. He is awesome.
Time to take a break and hang out with the animals for a bit!
What a heavenly day! Kristie, thank you so much! Enjoy your sneak peek!
This morning it was…COLD. And very windy. But the little ones I photographed were troopers! We kind of did a speedy session, but got some great shots, even with the baby! I love the kids smiles, and hanging out with this happy family =)
Check out the lovely colors and beautiful sunlight!
Such sweet siblings =)
And mom and dad get a few pictures, too!
Enjoy the sneak peek!
Sean and Sara had their engagement session this evening. With a deep love of nature and hiking through the woods together, it only made sense to head out to one of their favorite parks to find some fall color. We braved the cold and even a flurry or two and it was worth it!
I know this one is just of Sara, but I love it =)
Seriously, the funny faces these two make at each other…we were laughing the whole time!
Yep, more funny faces!
At the end of the session, Sean and Sara put on the camp t-shirts to honor the place where they met.
As the sun set, we enjoyed the peace near the river, it was such a lovely night.
Sean and Sara, here is your sneak peek! John and I can’t wait for your wedding next year!
Kelly and her family came down from the iron range for a family session this weekend, and they sure picked a lovely day. Since Kelly’s son loves trains, we featured that in some of his portraits, and this kid seriously knew his stuff! He could tell me what train was on what track in Southern California!
Then, little sister joined him…
…seriously, so cute!
We spent the hour chatting, walking through the woods and having a nice, laid back time.
Kelly, it was such a joy getting to know you and your family! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
Patrick and Carrie were married yesterday!
This autumn wedding combined the style of a city girl with the warmth and laid back nature of a country boy…and it was a fabulous mix. Since this was a destination wedding for these Minnesotans, the wedding turned into a weekend affair, with the wedding party all staying together at Echo Bay Resort. BB Cosmetic Bar made all the girls look fabulous while the guys donned their fancy jeans and pinned on boutonnieres hand made by the groom.
After beautifying was done, the group hopped on a bus to The Enchanted Barn. John and I were SO excited to get to shoot here! It is one of the most popular wedding venues in the area, and for good reason. The space is lovely and the staff was fantastic. I can’t say enough about how wonderful the coordinator worked with our group to pull this day off!
Carrie thought of everything from a custom photo wall to hankies for the guests’ tears at the ceremony, to an arrangement of shoes to compliment her wedding looks.
A friend of the bride designed the floral arrangements, which were a combination of ivory, burgandy, rose and pink. Perfect for fall.
The guys had their Tuff Jeans and cowboy hats ready to put on, but first, the groom got prepped to see his bride.
The Enchanted Barn has such beautifully manicured grounds…complete with props like this old truck. And they are pet friendly! The couples’ favorite furry ones were able to be a part of the day as well.
These two have a LOT of fun togther!
The guys get serious for a moment…
…while the girls dream of tropical breezes to stay warm!
The kids were SO CUTE!
For the ceremony, Carrie made her grand entrance from the pasture, and had an emotional walk down the aisle with her dad.
Patrick’s vows were awesome! He told Carrie she was the jam in his jelly roll. He had everyone rolling with laughter.
The guests went downstairs for cocktail hour and were greeted by beautiful vignettes Carrie had painstakingly designed. Carrie had an amazing AMAZING support staff of friends and family that helped her vision become reality.
This is my favorite image of the night.
Guests left tips for a happy marriage.
Time for dinner, and then the dance!
The couple surprised their guests with a danceline.
Time to party!
This group was a hoot!
Patrick and Carrie, thank you so much for having us tell the story of your day! Enjoy your sneak peek!
This weekend, we found a respite from the rain just long enough for a family session in the woods.
And we learned a valuable lesson, if a toddler is in the picture, the session becomes all about her. Little K sure put us through our paces, but was so darn cute I didn’t mind acting like an idiot in front of the whole family. In this picture she is trying to figure out who the wacko red headed lady is…
We switched to pictures of the grown ups in the family to let K play in the woods a bit.
Time to go exploring!
And we were rewarded with a smile!
Thanks, everyone for a fun family session and for
not thinking not saying to my face that I’m a total weirdo for making all those monkey noises. Enjoy your sneak peek!
I love the country…the fields, barns, open spaces, history. Love it. So when I was told to get my “shit kickers” on for the location of this senior session, I happily complied. Jon had his senior portraits taken all over the third generation family farm.
The old corn crib was my favorite building, and I asked Jon to channel his inner James Dean for these images.
I love the geometric shapes of the hay bales! And I gave all of these images a film look to compliment the surroundings.
After a quick shave, Jon put on his football jersey and we did a few more images near the house.
Jon, thank you so much for having me down to the farm for this session! Enjoy your sneak peek!
Today I had a product shoot for Hannah & Hobbes, a boutique soap company.
Hannah and Hobbes soaps are produced in small batches, and you can tell the difference on your skin the first time you use them. The ingredients are environmentally conscious and natural, the soaps smell amazing and look almost good enough to eat! And I love the gorgeous graphic design of the packaging. Everything about this company makes me happy =)
Look at the detail in these salt scrubs, just so lovely!
Since the soaps are all handmade, customized orders are easy to do. How about some Packers vs Vikings soaps? Or a soap in your company colors with a stamped logo to hand out to favorite clients? Or custom soap favors to give at a wedding? The possibilities are endless.
For the shoot, we wanted to highlight the ingredients as much as the beautiful bars of soap, so it was only natural to photograph the products in Heartland, a local organic farm to table restaurant in St Paul. PS go eat there, it is the best meal I’ve ever had!
So go like Hannah and Hobbes on facebook and check out their website! You’ll get to see these and more lovely pictures up soon =)
