Multiple generations came together in Minneapolis for a fun filled portrait session. We kept things light and fun, splitting into smaller family groups, letting the littlest ones pick where they wanted their pictures taken, and even a bit of tree climbing ensued. I truly enjoyed working with this family and watching the group dynamics of people who really love being together.

I met up with a fabulous family at an apple orchard for their portrait session. This time, aunty, uncles and grandparents came with! I always enjoy photographing multiple generations, seeing littles with their grandparents and hearing siblings banter is such fun. Though we had a very determined-not-to-smile toddler, we got a few out of her! Little brother was all smiles all the time, one of the smiliest babies I’ve ever seen!
This was when the crazy photographer told her mom to put her in a tree…and mom said, “sure!”

So things have been so crazy here, I’m just getting to blogging a session a week late!
So what I loved about this session is how real it was. We have multiple generations getting their portrait taken, four kids to try and get to smile at the same time, aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents…it definitely kept me on my toes! When one of the moms said, “just smile, I’ll give you a dollar, I’ll give you ten dollars, I’ll give you a PONY, please smile!” It just summed up the family portrait experience perfectly. We had fun, let the kids play and got some great images of this awesome family.
We have our sessions last an hour because it gives us time to shoot documentary family portraits as well as posed ones. Showing kids in their real environment, with their real personalities and experiences is priceless. The outtakes are the ones they will remember into adulthood. Maybe the cousins will recreate this someday!

I had such a fun family session today! We started off with 6 month old Grayson, who has the most charming smile and bright blue eyes.
THEN Grayson’s extended family showed up and all kinds of hillarity ensued.
